Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge Construction

Building a massive bridge like the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge requires precise engineering and step-by-step assembly. Constructed 900 feet (274m) above the Colorado River, this iconic structure features a 1,060-foot (323m) central span.

The construction process followed a strategic sequence:

  1. Erecting piers on both sides of the canyon

  2. Installing temporary towers to support construction

  3. Assembling the arch across the canyon

  4. Removing temporary towers and cables after securing the arch

  5. Erecting spandrel columns to support the roadway

  6. Laying the bridge deck to complete the structure
