Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge Construction
Building a massive bridge like the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge requires precise engineering and step-by-step assembly. Constructed 900 feet (274m) above the Colorado River, this iconic structure features a 1,060-foot (323m) central span.
The construction process followed a strategic sequence:
-
Erecting piers on both sides of the canyon
-
Installing temporary towers to support construction
-
Assembling the arch across the canyon
-
Removing temporary towers and cables after securing the arch
-
Erecting spandrel columns to support the roadway
-
Laying the bridge deck to complete the structure
